Contributing to a more sustainable future
At Kathleen Halligan Consulting. We are committed to reducing our environmental footprint and contribute to a more sustainable future. Examples of how we do this in our day to day activities are:
1. Energy Efficiency:
- Switched to energy-efficient lighting (LED bulbs).
- Installed programmable thermostats to optimise heating and cooling.
- Always turn off lights, computers, and other equipment when not in use.
- Use power strips to easily turn off multiple devices at once.
2. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle:
- We have recycling bins for paper, plastic, and glass.
- Reduced paper usage by going digital with documents and communications.
- Reused office supplies like paper clips, folders, and envelopes.
- Donated and recycled old electronics and office equipment.
3. Sustainable Purchasing:
- Where possible we choose eco-friendly office supplies made from recycled materials.
- Selected Energy Star-rated appliances and equipment.
- Sourced products ocally to reduce transportation emissions.
- Considered the environmental impact when selecting vendors and suppliers.
4. Water Conservation:
- Fixed leaks in taps and toilets promptly.
- Installed low-flow taps and toilets to reduce water usage.
- Encouraged employees to be mindful of water consumption i.e. not leaving taps running.
5. Transportation:
- Encourage carpooling, biking, or using public transportation for commuting.
- Promote remote work.
- Use video conferencing instead of traveling for meetings when possible.
6. Waste Reduction:
- Minimise single-use plastics by providing reusable alternatives like water bottles and coffee mugs.
- Composte organic waste from the office kitchen.
- Set the printer to double-sided printing and use scrap paper for notes.
7. Green Office Design:
- Use natural light and proper insulation to reduce the need for artificial heating and cooling.
- Incorporate indoor plants to improve air quality.
- Choose eco-friendly and recycled materials for furniture and fittings.
8. Employee Engagement:
- Educate employees and associates about the importance of environmental sustainability.
- Recognise and reward environmentally friendly behaviors and ideas.
9. Carbon Offsetting:
- Support local community renewable energy projects and tree planting projects
10. Continuous Improvement
- Regularly assess the office's environmental impact and set goals for improvement.
- Seek feedback from employees, associates and stakeholders to identify new opportunities for sustainability.
